glitch at 60+ (5.0.3) instead of 80+ (5.0.2)

Ok I havent had any problems at all until now. I started a project in 5.0.2 a couple weeks ago and it was running between 50-70 on the cpu with no problems. It wouldnt glitch until I got in the the 80+ range.
But now with 5.0.3 I get glitches anytime I go over 60+ on the cpu meter. I went back to using 5.0.2 with the same set and all is normal with that version so needless to say I am back to using that version.
No big deal really I will just go back to using 5.0.2 as I really didnt have any problems with it. I was just looking forward to the more efficient CPU usage but it has turned out to be the opposite. Thought you guys would want to know.
AMD XP 2700
2gb 333
160gb 7200 (audio drive)
40gb 7200 (system)
No Net
M-Audio Delta 66 (set at 512)

I think it's a really big deal that the newest version of Live, which should be working better than any other version, is in fact performing worse for you. You can't stay with 5.0.2 forever, so look reality in the eye - join the rest of us who have these kinds of problems with Live.

Hi jbible,
this is very interesting. Can you check if you use exactly the same preferences in Live 5.0.3 and Live 5.0.2?
Furthermore, in Live 5.0.3, please go to the Audio preferences and enable the "System File Cache".
Then quit and restart Live and check if this makes a difference.

I will check the prefs and do a more in depth comparison to give you tomorrow morning.

Thanks jbible,
you should start with the "System File Cache" option as it is easy to done.

Strange.
I loaded up 5.0.2. Worked fine. Then opened the same project in 5.0.3. Got serious glitch. Checked the System File Cache option. It was turned on. So I turned it off and restarted. Problem was gone. Ran the same as in 5.0.2.
So I decided to see if turning System File Cache back on would cause it to glitch again. Turned it on. Restarted. No glitches. Went back and forth with System File Cache on and off to see if I could reproduce the glitches and I was unable to. There was no noticable difference between SFC being turned on or off in the end.
Not sure what happened but apparently the problem was temporary.

Hi Alex and jbible,
Excuse my ignorance, but I can't find anything labeled "System File Cache" in audio preferences, either on PC or Mac... Is it there in 5.03 ? is it in Audio prferences ? or is the label somehow different from what you mentionned ?
Sorry again to pop up for that !
Best,
amo

In the preferences > audio tab. In the settings section directly under channel configuration.

Ah thanks ! that must be related to your soundcard then cause on the powerbook I'm using right now, with built in core audio, it's not there. that makes sense. Thanks again.

jibble,
thanks so far. Indeed it sounds a bit strange. Please let me know if it happens again.
amo,
as you already noticed, it is a windows only option.

Isn't it even a firewire soundcard only option ? Cause is I hit the settings button on my PC laptop it opens the RME control panel... And I don't remember seing any "system file cache" in it... will double check at home.
Greats,
amo

Hi amo,
no it is an option, that should be available only in the audio preferences within Live on a Windows computer. It is not related to a certain audio interface but to the operating system.

Thanks Alex for the precision. I'll check it tonight at home, but I've never seen that option (!). I'm quite sure the "settings" button opens nothing else than the Multiface control panel, and that there is no "file system cache" in it... But I could be wrong.
Well, it probably is not so usefull to me whatever... but I LOVE to know !
Kind regards,
amo
