midi mapping for ozonic in live (again)

I'm a beginner at MIDI in general so it would be very nice if someone could answer a few questions i have reagrding midi-mapping with my Ozonic.
How does this MMC work? I know that different numbers change what the different buttons/knobs or whatever do (for excample 02 is play) but I changed the MMC for the "play" button on my Ozonic to 02 and still Live does not even recognise when the button is pressed. A beginners guide to MMC would be very useful!
Also. This might be a stupid question, but do you have to plug in some sort of MIDI-cable to the computer or is the firewire cable enough?
