Midi Footpedalproblem

hi togheter, i just purchased a rolls mp80 footcontroller because i wantet to start clips with it but it doesnt work. i got the midi signal in the midiinputmeter but when i go to the midi assignmode it's impossible to assign any pedal to the clips...
i know that many of you are using footpedals just fo do exactly this. could it be that my pedal just sends programmchange or am i wrong?

does somebody have any idea what i could do?

i use live 5.0.3, pentium 4, 3.6. 1gig, s-ata's, creamwarestuff and a msi notebook 2.0 centrino, 2gig and presonus firebox, both on xp pro
