Live crashes randomly on G5 dual-core

hi,
A couple of months ago i bought an apple G5 dual-core 2.3 GHz along with Ableton Live 5. Whenever i use Live it crashes at random points even when the program is idle. this has also happened when using safari on the internet and listening to audio clips such as MP3's on beatport. I also run ProTools 7.0 and i haven't had any similar problems although it did crash once. I've contacted apple's technical support and i've run 'disk permissions' on all my drives including an external hard drive, and i've run the hardware test with the OS X install disks. nothing has come up. like i said, Live can be open with no plug-ins and no samples in the tracks and still crash. here are the details of my setup and if anyone has any advice or has had similar problems, i'd appreciate it.
