manual warping: strange behaviour

i tried the old technic for warping (before auto-warping was introduced): first of all, i've set the "auto warp long samples" to OFF in the preferences.
then i've dragged an audio file in the session view (this file hadn't been warped before).
launched the clip with warp OFF, and tapped the tempo.
then switched warp ON again in the clip, and there are warp markers all over the place, and they aren't even regularly placed, it's as if it had been auto-warped... but i wanted to manually set the markers, not let Live do it.
is there something i'm missing?
