Edit Clip while playing

Hi,
I'm looking to record some drums, edit them in sound forge and then reimport them as an audio loop - all in the middle of a set. (I don't want to use warp markers)
I can *almost* do this by editing the temp files ableton stores in the project folders, but the loops seem to be odd lengths and never import properly as loops. also, I can't access the files at all until i've deleted them from the playlist in ableton, and started a new recording going and deleted that also. (so i pick the third most recent recording.. very clumsy)
Clicking Edit lets me open this up in soundforge, and its a perfect loop then, but I have to stop all audio first.
Is there a workaround for this? anyone understand how the temp file system works?
Cheers
Lachlan
