Mac Guys - Should I upgrade to Tiger?

I am running an iBook 933 with 1.12 GB of RAM. I am currently on 10.3.9 and am considering upgrading to Tiger.

Would this be a good idea? Would I see any performance improvement from Ableton or would Tiger eat my ram? Should I bother?

Thanks!

Mitch

i would, but maybe not the newest version if you can help it. I think people really started to see problems with 10.4.3 on.

Care to cite an example?

Running 10.4.4 here, runs like a top. I can't imagine going back to 10.3

I loved 10.4.3, in my opinion the best mac OS ever. Then 10.4.4 broke the hell out of my iMac G5. I have all sorts of CoreAudio/firewire problems, and a nasty Energy Saver problem as well (which seems to be somehow related to Firewire/USB, or something). As far as I can tell, I'm the only lucky one with these features. Glad I hadn't put it on my laptop yet.

Aside from this rather crappy snag, I love Tiger.

with 10.4.3 ther were a couple complaints about problems with audio interfaces. adn i have heard 2 or 3 with 10.4.4 reguarding midi controllers, USB hubs etc. Specifically, the computer randomly not recognizing them, and then having to restart to get them to come back up.

I have 10.4.4 and im cool with it. i just thought i would throw that out there. cause i dont remember anything with 10.4.2, and obviously, you dont really get much with these updates.

Live 4 works really well on 10.3.9-10.4.2.

Live 5.0.3 is really wierd on 10.4.4.

Everything between those two variations I forget. Rather than taking notes I have been praying. I have had quite few problems with tiger, not specifically tied to Live. My computer is old, however.

I hav'nt been able to get jack-OSX to start up against my Delta audiophile 24-96 on any flavour of 10.4. Other than that I'm quite pleased with it (10.4.4 seems to be going well so far).

I recommend upgrading, except when you're using Logic 6.x, which isn't entirely compatible.

all clear

never a hitch from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3 to 10.4.4

running on imac g5 2ghz, 828mkII and Live 5.0.2

Live 5.0.3 is no go till "DOH" "From the 1.1.1." sets his shit right.
