how to make a transponed audioclip sound more dense?

when you use the lives fantastic feature to transpose an audio loop up or down, the result is sometimes not so wonderfull, especially with wide/atmospheric sounds,
nomatter which warp mode you take (beat, complex...)
the more you shift the loop up or down from its original pitch , the more it can be heared. (the sound is not really clipping, but it looses viatality and tightness.)
which procedures can be done to cure the sound again?

can't try this until I get home from work, but here's a posible suggestion:
play the same sample in two or more tracks, each transposed by the same semi-tones, but vary them in one or more ways such as:
-change the Detune a few CTs
-change the offset just a tinie bit
-use different but similar reverbs
-(as you said) eq, but they could be different
