Four Tet - What do you think?

I caught Four Tet in Sydney last week and he played very well. Big beats varying from breaks to Dn'B and also used field recording etc.

He was using 2 Laptops, some kind of midi controller (maybe a faderfox) and an anologue controller of sorts.

Does anyone know exactly what his setup is?

What do people think of his music?

What software does he use?

Four tet is great imho. Subtle and moving and harsh all at the same time. Very good indeed I say.

AFAIK Four tet really likes Audiomulch. Check out this interview: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Jul03/a ... ourtet.asp

Audiomulch is a very inspiring program, check it out at www.audiomulch.com

When I saw him (Copenhagen 2004), it was two laptops and a mixer with a sampler in it, nothing more. He was mousing it a lot, but a thoroughly enjoyable gig that was even released on CD (out of print now)

Let me guess, is your fave FT disc Pause or Paws?

I've been a fan for a few years now, love Rounds and currently working on Everything Ecstatic.

Kieran Hebden rocks.

I hope he uses Live

I don't think he uses live at all.

I like his trimmed-down gear philosophy. Sometimes less is more.

Hmm. Never heard of any of those... the only one I have is the recording of that gig I went to:) It's on the list, though.

Apparently his gig here in Melbourne was amazing, but about 100 times too loud

For all that gear and creativity, the simplest dial on the desk was in the wrong position.

So sick of electronic music being treated like it is purely functional...

Interesting. Can you elaborate on this?

Kieran Said:
Particularly on this record and the previous one, the idea is very much that the computer's the instrument.
Hmmm.

Audiomulch? Sounds interesting. Hebden is an electronic music gardener of sorts.
