Recording Audio with Live 5 problems
Posted: Wed Feb 01, 2006 4:11 pm
I've done a track in Live 5 and got that over to the Arrangement, 11 tracks and then one for the sax part, making 12.
Here's the rundown:
1. Guitar sample using Chorus
2. Drum sample using EQ3 and Reverb
3. Bridge Drum sample using no efx
4. VST bass part using Blue no efx
5. VST loop part using Blue no efx
6. VST loop part using Blue no efx (played in and out)
7. Bridge pad part using Blue no efx (only on bridge)
8. Crash sample no efx (played here and there)
9. Synth sample using Pingpong Delay (played in and out)
10. Vox samples using Chorus and Pingpong delay (played in and out)
11. Live sax with Reverb
That's 7 efx total.
My computer:
P4 2.5-ish ghz Intel Sorry, I forget what's in there....
P4P800-E Deluxe Asus MOB
7200 hd's
1 gig of ram
Not the fastest kid on the block....
Sound card:
M Audio Ozone usb
Sennheiser 421 mic using Ozone preamp
Not the most stellar soundcard....
Given my modest rig, I'm not expecting miracles, but I do feel there's a problem with Live 5 and my setup when recording Audio. Things don't line up when recording. Also, I get the cpu overrun on occasion, but it's not occuring every pass. The trouble area is a big pad on the bridge, which I changed the sound and that helped.
I've tried all manner of recording, moving the latency up, down, no efx etc and still the Audio gets skewed.
I built the track in 4.1.4 and recorded. The CPU usage was high, but it hovered and didn't jump around and I experienced no problems with recording the Audio. The audio lined up perfectly.
Any suggestions?
Imho, I don't think I'm taxing things that hard. I'm back in the game after being away from software for a long time, so maybe I'm in need of a fresher rig, better card, etc. But for Live 4 to be able to do it is a clear indication of a problem in 5.
Also, Blue is pretty hungry, but not ridiculous.
I'm going to try another VSTi and see if that can help lower the usage in 5. Until then, it's back to 4 and waiting for that wonderful update to come around.
Regards,
Kenfen
