Motu MIDI Express 128 sync problem

I just bought a Motu MIDI Express 128.
The problem I'm having is that when the sync on a midi out port is selected in Live's preferences, the built-in audio output on my laptop gets interference noise.
What could be wrong?
Any thoughts would be appreciated
