So,

I'm playing in a band who recently lost a guitar player, and I am replacing him while also remaining the keyboard player.

I want to use Live to play some of my keyboard parts when I am playing guitar (and therefore unable to play keys)

What I want to be able to do is have a floor midi controller and be able to tap the tempo, then hit another button to launch midi sequences.

I was playing with the demo tonight, and I couldn't get live to JUST launch a friggen sequence without continuing to play the whole track

Is live the right program for me? anyone else doing a similar setup?

I'm interested in responses to this post too, as I want to do the reverse, i.e. play keys and trigger geeeetar.

it's doable.
i am doing the same thing. I haven't tried the tap tempo start yet..
we're still working with a click to the drummers headphones.

but it is doable, if it's just a section you want, you can also assign a foot
pedal to stopclips, then when you start it again it should be fine.

I don't like foot controllers very much when it comes to tempo tapping, because the buttons simply require too much pressure. It feels more like tempo stomping than tapping.

If you happen to have midi organ pedals with your keys (like the Roland PK-5) I'd use those. Another good option is to connect a sustain pedal to a foot controller that has extra inputs (like the Yamaha MFC10).

The Behringer foot controller is perfect for this. I am able to play a key line. loop it and pick another instrument. Tap tempo works great for me. You can really choreograph your stomps to go with your performance.
