Aftertouch question

I'm having a bit of trouble using the aftertouch strip on my ozonic. If I assign it to a knob or slider in Live, it works fine, but it only goes one way! so when I press down on the strip, the slider will move to the left, but when I let go, it just stays there, and the next time I press down on the strip, the slider moves further left until it's maxed(minned?) out.
How is this at all useful? Surely it would be much more useful for momentarily changing parameters, rather than changing them forever?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but it's got me stumped. I've also got the Enigma editor for it, but there doesn't seem to be anything on there to change it either.
