I'm looking for a pc to install live software. can you recommend me some pc makes? what about ibm thinkpad R40?
And do you know if there's some problems with windows xp pro os?

Using Live on a Compaq Presario 2111, XP2200+, 256MB RAM, Radeon video, DVD/CD R/W, XP Pro along with a Layla 24 8 I/O using the CardBus. All working slick, fast and crash-free, no problems whatsoever and it all cam to less than what I paid last year for an 866 Powerbook. Which was sold to pay for this new setup. Compaq's seem way better since HP took over operations although the built-in soundcard isn't up to much, but at these prices who cares. It dual screens quite nicely as well using the monitor from my desktop setup. Bargain.

glad to hear the compaq works, though I must admit hp and compaq are a bit more on the bargain end than sony, toshiba, dell and gateway (i.e. they put together a computer with the same specs as those other manufactures for less money by buying the cheapest parts availible, while sonys and toshibas use more name brand chipsets and parts--intel, t.i., etc.). For laptop pcs, I'd say the quality ranking would be sony, toshiba, gateway, then dell in my book. I have a toshiba satelite 2430, 2.4 g P4 desktop processor, 1 gig RAM, XP PRo with RME multiface soundcard--works great. You can tell by looking at and playing with the toshiba that it is of a higher, more robust build quaility than any of the others I looked at. Good luck

i was running on a compaq presario 700 series until just the other day. it was decent, aside from some heat issues and freezing problems that occured when service pack 1 was installed.

unfortunately though, my house was just robbed over the weekend and my laptop is now gone. which also means that my last 2 months of music (since i last backed everything up) is now gone also.

so i guess i'm in the market now for a new pc laptop as well. i probably wont get a compaq again. so far the toshiba's really seem to be the way to go according to most user reviews that i've read. the price range for the toshibas isn't bad either. i would still love to hear opinions though.

..Ive got a two year old toshiba satellite 1700 with a 650 celeron chip 192mb ram and a 6GIG hard disc...if I were getting another laptop Id either get a toshiba, or a sony with an athlon chip (to save money) the only problem I have with running Live on my current computer is that it only has a 12.1inch screen..a 14 or fifthteen inch screen would be nice..

i now use a desktop with live (yes., thats right- a desktop) Its called a MusicXPC

Its a small form factor PC, fast, quite, huge and Fast HD's and i can use my UAD plugs with Live that way
