Until recently, I've not played much with the individual elements (the red blocks in the unfolded mode) that make up the info in the clip envelope of my MIDI tracks (for my keyboard controller). I've been trying to delete some of the elements/redblocks in the clip envelope, and, while the red boxes do go away, their corresponding "dashes" in the track above in the Composition View remain. And, of course, when I play it, the music is still there. I've tried saving and re-opening and the situation is the same - the red blocks are gone, but the dashes (and the music) are still there in the track.

The opposite is somewhat true, as well. If I delete a MIDI clip in the track in Composition View, the red blocks do not go away in the Clip Envelope.

Perhaps, I am missing some step that initiates or finalizes the changes, but I can't imagine what. Is this a bug?

i am not sure i understand you, and one thing which is causing me trouble is "composition view"

there is no such term. the main two views are session and arrangement. "clip view" or "track view" could also be valid descriptions, but not "composition"

in any case, let's assume you mean arrangement. i can delete notes from the clip view when an arrangement midi clip is selected, and they disappear as they should from the arrangement above. is this what you are describing and cannot get to happen?

also if you are in fact just talking about notes, it's also confusing to be referring to envelopes. at least myself, i consider the note information and the envelopes to be completely separate things. i.e. there are the notes, and then there are various envelopes: for panning, velocity, pitch bend, sustain pedal, etc.

I deleting the notes (I am hestiant to call them notes because the red blocks, as I described them, need not necessarily be triggers for specific tones) at the bottom of the control surface in what I can only describe as the envelope view or views. A user clicks on a section (in my case, of a MIDI track) above in the Arrangement, and, then a cross section of that clip/part/section magically appears at the bottom. When it is unfolded, red blocks appear that represent the dynamics, duration, and the speciifc keys/notes of my keyboard.

My challenge is anytime I change anything at the bottom (say, deleting some notes), they do not disappear form the Arrangement above. If I move a note (say, tonally), again, no chaneg in the Arrangement. I've snet a bucnh of screen shots to Ableton support, so, I suspect they may be able to help.

your problem is definitely strange. i can't right now think of how this could be happening.

i have had a similar problem before but in the session view.

When deleting a clip that has a ton of controller data in it from a slot then I drop or create another clip in the same slot it's as if the controller data is stored in the slot because it imposes itself in the new or replaced clip.

I think this was supposed to be fixed with the 5.0.3 update? however sometimes the problem rears its head....

do not really use the arrangement so can't say i've had the same happening there.

I've been saying this for months now. It gets really annoying to see how these bugs are kept revision after revision. Honestly I don't know how anyone can be using Live decently with an external midi rig. the audio part of it works ok, but I can't simply work with midi on this thing.

That thing you mentioned is the end of it all. You're basically limited to one clip per track, AND make sure you get it right on the first one. After you've recorded some CC info you'll NEVER be able to erase it FROM THE WHOLE TRACK!!!!

whatever scene you open the new clip, it'll get pre recorded CC data on it.

and it's still not fixed in 5.0.3

can someone please explain me how they're using this with external midi synths????

It's been almost a year since Live 5 came out and simple bugs like this one haven't been erased yet.
