accessing samples over a network

Me and my flatmate are both musicians - he has a 120 gig desktop - I have a 6 gig laptop - With reason/cubase/wavelab (have not tried ACID...ooops blasphemy there sorry) etc... I can access and assign sample folder paths (reason) to the wealth of smaples we have both collected, that are kept on his hard drive - yet with Ableton Live 2.0 i cannot - I find this most frustrating as it means I have to burn samples on to cd, take up valuable application space with wavs or audition samples in wavelab before I can try them in Live.

Is there a way around this network problem or not???

Should i just get rid of counter strike of my laptop and deal with the loss.....??

Surely Live recognises external hard-drives ...... why not the "external" drive on my flatmates computer....??

I am not sure if you are on mac or pc. You mentioned ACID so maybe it is PC, anyway it does not really matter. You just need to make sure you have the network drives mapped as a drive letter on your system (PC). On the mac side basically you just connect to the server share (assuming you use OSX)

I have successfully used samples over the network in several sessions, then later doing a save as self contained and I now have the project on my local machine and you can tweak out any of those original samples to your hearts content!

Hope this helps.
