I am about to purchase a G4 667 512Ram Powerbook to run Live 1.5 / Reason 2 / Cubase SX.
Currently I am running a PIII 1Ghz 512Ram W2K box with a Pulsar 2 board / Cubase 5.1 / Reason 1.01 / Live 1.1.1.
I get all the performance I need out of my pc however I am soon to begin performing live on stage.
My question is about how much performance will I get under OSX on a 667 powerbook running Reason / Live / Cubase?
Does anybody run the current version of these apps successfully on a powerbook under OS9.2?
I use upto 20 tracks (some very small parts) in Live and the same in Reason for my tracks.
I feel if a G4 667 doesn't cut it nothing will.

Funny. None of the software you name is out yet.
All I can tell you is that ableton told me Live runs smoother on an older Powerbook (g3) or an iBook 600mhz, than on a Titanium. This is due to Apple's new motherboard achitecture and cache issues.

Let's hope so, but it's a hardware issue so Apple is in control here

I am very interested to hear that Maxim. Do you use either a ibook 600 or a tiBook?
I tested a g4 550 with 256ram today. It was an in shop demo machine. I got good performance under 0S 9.2. I diabled virtual memory and allocated memory for reason, although I couldn't allocate more memory for live. Live was as usual a memory junkie.
I used Live 1.1 (off my cd) and reason 1.
Anyhow I got ten full tracks in live over about 3 1/2 minutes. I also had about 30 tracks (small parts) over the same time in Reason. After this live ate into the system memory and crashed.
I was aiming for a 667 G4 512ram powerbook but if an iBook could be strong enough I would get one.
PB500 > PB667

Say, for what it's worth, there ARE some documented memory bandwidth issues with the latest powerbooks (the 550 and 667) which make them a little less desirable for digital audio.
From what I've been told by developers from MOTU and others, the G4/500 is the machine to buy, and you can get a very good deal on one these days. In many cases the G4/500 outperforms the 667 in digital audio tests.

Very interesting PPGWave.
Can you direct me to these test results?
