Linux port

I plan that in a not so distant future (3 or four years) both Windows and Mac OS (which i'm currently using) will extensively include non user controllable Digital Rights Management features.
When this will be i will switch to Linux and i would like to have Ableton Live with me. If Ableton Live will not be available for the linux platform i will sadly stop to use Ableton Live.

seems vista want stop us using our favorites open source and or free progs with its "trusted technology" (who could run code on their OS ? i let you guess

)
the only reason i don't switch to linux is music software and Live
so please study a linux port of this great soft ( not has to be opensource

)

btw now there is a way to use vst dll in linux

Hi there,

I'd love to see Ableton on Linux too. I have used the demo and would purchase it if it ran on Linux as I don't use Windows (except for my finances) or OS X. I just purchased eXT for the forthcoming release for Linux.

As for vsts, they do run on Linux as you said yep , and actually not too bad. I use xfst which is a JACK client. I have tried it with a bunch of freeware VSTs and have had good results.

Same here, I won't be going to Vista before all the intrusive 'security' drm shit is cracked or hardware mods are out for motherboards.

I use Linux since 2000.
While I would like to see Linux becoming more 'Music' friendly, I have to say that today's distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Suse) lack Music composition support. If you go to Planet CCRMA (http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/) you can find a good working example of a tweaked Linux distro for Music.
The current Music Driver stack made by ALSA, Jack and LANDSPA, it's a good one but it's far from being user oriented. Linux need to standardize a bit around this issues. Compiling Ardour is not an easy task for the newbie and sometimes not even for the experienced. While Rosengarten provides a Cubase - like experience on Linux, it might be difficult to setup.
I would like to see Ableton focusing on actual product line over the two major platforms that are Apple and Windows. They already are doing well being the first DAW to go Intel-Mac with 5.2. Everybody fears DRM or Palladium but at the end maybe even Linux itself will incorporate a little of this shit in the kernel to be able to run on a Trusted platform. It's sad to say, I think all of us will end up with a PC to make music and another one for everyday usage. What we can ask Abletons is to write a savy software that runs on this generation and next generation Intel architecture. I think my current PC will almost never end its duty cycle. Linux is good and is improving, but I think Music Composition is not first in the agenda.
