Hi,

I did a DJ bash using Live at a house party on Saturday night.

All was fine except the sound was really dodgy.

I was plugged directly into the Aux input of the Hi Fi from my EMU 1616m card.

I put on a CD after I had done, and the sound was so much clearer.

I have been having some problems with the soundcard outputs, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t the issue.

The main problem is that the Bass end is very blurry and the Kick has no thump.

I’ve noticed this problem when I’ve played before, through various sound systems.

I am routing my master output through Reaktor ‘Flatblaster’ Compressor and Lives saturator.

I use an EQ 4 and simple delay on each channel.

I’m interested if people are having this same problem and if not then what your setup/soundcard is.

I am really getting reluctant to play out again if I can’t get this sorted.

it is not your soundcard or live it will be the aux input of the hifi. Have you trying to hear the sound on other systems?

Yes I have had similar problems through club DJ mixers.

I am sending the card back for a replacement, so hopefully that may make the difference.

I'll post again after I hook up the new card.

For some reason the DACs in most HiFi CD players are far superior to most computer card DACs........
You should investigate purchasing a quality interface (£700+)
You need to spend more if the interface contains many channels and pre amps etc.
(look at RME, Apogee, and all the known quality vendors)

Sorry to say, but it sounded terrible, bass completely missing.

So I returned the unit and got a Digidesign Digi Rack 002

This sounded better, but was still no where near the sound of my Hi-Fi CD player (Cyrus)

So in the end I had to upgrade again to solve the lack of quality.
I now have an Apogee Rosetta 200 which sounds great and is well worth extra cash because I can finally hear 98% of the mix.

The quality of your DAC is probably the single most important component in your system as it is the point where the 1s and 0s get converted into sound. No matter how good the rest of your system is if the source is not good then the whole thing will sound terrible.

The same applies to A/D conversion, don't expect quality recordings from an off the shelf piece of gear.
