im trying to get a joystick to be a midi device thing

hi.
i am very new to this midi yoke stuff. i have managed to install the midi yoke nt program on my laptop and i am trying to get it to recognise movements of a usb joystick within ableton.
in the midi sync tab in preferences in active devices input and output it is saying midi yoke nt 1 - 8 so it is picking up something but i dont really know what to do now.
i want to use it to move around the session view and fire off samples and suchlike and maybe get it to make some sounds too, if possible. though at the moment it isnt picking anything up, no midi indicators are flashing or nothing.
does anyone have any advice or help or something? it would be much appreciated. cheers
