Damaged song files in Live

I recently got Live for Christmas, and since getting it have lost two song files to unexplainable reasons. The first one gave an error code when I tried to open it that the file I was opening must have been created by a newer version of Live and is incompatible due to an unrecognized stream type. I contacted technical support, and they inspected the file and suggested that the file was actually a Cubase 5 file and asked if I accidently changed the extension. Now I am working on a mac so extensions don't really mean as much as they do on Windows so changing the extenstion wouldn't usually do anything. I relayed this back and also that I had imported aiffs they were rendered from Cubase so that might have been what was showing up. Tech support wrote back that it did seem strange but there was nothing they could do.

The second file just happened this evening. I was working in one song file and wanted to move to another one. I saved the song I was working on and went to "open recent files" and chose the song I wanted to open from there. The name in the title bar changed but all the events, tracks, sequences etc stayed the same as the previous song file. Hoping this was a temporary glitch, I closed Live completely and reopened the song. Nope, no such luck. Live had somehow overwritten the song I wanted to open with the song that was currently open.

Has anyone else had problems similar to these? I cannot continue to loose my work like this. Unfortunatly I did not have any back up saves of these two songs and have since made back up version of other als files, but can I even trust that? Hopefully they will be able to offer some solution, be able to recover data from my files, or at least somehow compensate me for the time and work I lost.
