intense CPU spikes/glitches with Live+Reason on windows

I had been suffering very occasional CPU spikes with 5.xx builds. usually when i first moved a Send.
However, last night with the latest beta, i started using Reason Rewired into Live b5. (live master - reason slave)
When i started to preview Rex files, i would get massive CPU spikes and the sound of the previewed file would sound distored with crackling/white noise.
if i previewed 10 rex files, 8 would distort and cause cpu spikes.
my CPU meter in live was around 18% normally then with spikes it would jump to 80+% and i would see jumps up to 170% (I am running HT CPU)
So there definitely is a problem here.
MOre likely Rewire/and or HT. I can try later wtih HT disabled....I had some NI plugs and i know that they have issues with HT, but i've used them fine before in LIve only.
my cpu is p4 3.4GHz with 1.5GB RAM. (XP Pro)
