Midi song off the net imported in Live - no more velocities

hi guys,
i've tried downloading some MIDI songs off the net, muted all tracks and only left the drums and bass on, so that i can play along on my guitar.
then tried to drag the MIDI drums it into a Live session so that i can add a 1,2,3,4 count-in and eventually change the drum kits in Impulse for a better sound, but now the MIDI notes in the drum track are mapped differently (or lets say the Impulse drum kits are mapped differently and on another octave) and all velocities are up to 100% which makes the drum track unusable.
what a chaos.
i've also tried different MIDI editors for exporting just the original MIDI drums as a .wav file but i didn't get anywhere with that either. any ideea how it can be done ?
i just wanna play along to the drum tracks of my favourite songs, and while i CAN do that in any MIDI player, doing it in Live would be a lot more productive if things wouldn't get messed up at import time !
