Im using Ableton Live 5.0.1 and each time i do self contain it makes a folder next to my song file with the samples and the samples do not self contain them self into my tracks...so i always must send the sample folder to my friend in order for him to get all the samples...
whats going on ?
... Hmmm - you're confusing (personal) inconvenience/ignorance, with something-else?
How do/did you expect Live (or anything else) to 'save samples' "into your tracks"?
That's why - the option to "save set - self contained" is there. It's "self-contained" for this very reason, as an .als, and 'folder' so that you (and it) can find the 'session/set'
easily, and OPEN IT AGAIN. (or share it)
When you open the
.als, don't they load into their respective 'tracks'? Assuming your "friend" is using Live also - do they not load
exactly the same way for him/her when they load the .als? Are they using some
other application that you both just "wish" would open your efforts, magically?
In the manner which others have expressed already - I regularly share sessions back and forth, with several Live users/collaborators - that we simply burn the .als, and the 'set folder' (with the same name - obviously) to CD/DVD - and load it - with no problems what-ever. (unless you have included instruments/effects the other person doesn't have - but THAT is a no-brainer)
Don't really get the nature of your "problem".
I could be missing something, but as an aside - someone refered to having all the accumulated samples (whatever) - in "one folder" (if I read correctly) without seperating them in some way like say (oh, I don't know - by
project maybe(?))
Soooo that's for every song/exercise you do, or that one has acquired/generated over time? Some of us (like me) have many hundreds of GBs of 'samples/loops/sound LIBRARIES', and curiously enough -
Live sets. Particularly, if that is what we
make/produce, and USE to do so. So for "us" - that would be just a dumbass stupid, oversight on Abletons, or any other functional applications, part.
... Can anyone imagine Kontact, GURU, RMX, or
any rompler/sampler having ALL the sample content included with the interface - simply put in one BIG folder, with no division/sub-divisions, or catagories/instrument definitions? That would be hours and hours of fun.
The only people I have encountered who have to "look all over" for stuff, are those who do not understand the "Look IN" and "Save IN" parts of the universally applicable - browser - of literally every application that opens and saves files.
Of course I
can see the desire of some - to pre-empt the need to "save as" because of the annoyance of having to come up with a name for the damn thing, when all you want to do is close the app, and move on to the next adventure.
Must be tough > Live Content > Live Sets > (Ohmagawd!) > folder I wanted.
... Put a 'short-cut' to the Live Sets folder on your desktop. Open it, and click an
.als - Live opens that 'set'.
Simple.
