Hi,

I use for djing a PC laptop, Live 5, Echo indigo Dj and a UC33e controller (quite standard configuration). In my last live set I had the following problem: everything was OK but suddenly I lost the connection with the UC33e!! I tried to disable ("off") and enable ("on") it from the MIDI/Sync configuration tab but the problem wasn't solved (one time before I was able to recover the connection to the UC33e doing this). I restarted the UC33e and Live but the problem wasn't solved. Finally I had to restart the laptop...
Anyone knows which was the problem?? I don't want to happen it again when I play live!! I haven't had any problem before with Live5 + UC33e at home so I suspect that the problem wasn't Live or UC33e but that perhaps there was "powerline noise" and this damaged the UC33e USB connection...

Has anyone experience with this kind of problems?? How could I avoid this powerline problems? I'm thinking in using a MOTU Fastlane USB interface (needs less power than the UC33e) and then connect the UC33e with a MIDI cable. This should be a more stable configuration but still USB, I don't know... Another possibility is using a "isolation transformer" (is it the correct name??) to avoid the powerline noises but I don't know...

Sorry for posting again but didn't anyone had this USB connection breaks because of "powerline noises"? Would be an "isolation transformer" a solution?

Did anyone had the explained connection problems with Live5+UC33e?

I just had a "loss of connection" to my all important trigger finger. I had to reboot during the set, asking the singers to improvise something. Highly frustrating.

I have no idea what causes it, but recently I had quite a lot of these. I am using a long cable.. could this be it?

Trouble here also with the trigger finger......loss of connection.

It NEVER gave trouble in 5.0.3!

--- all you friendly people have come up with a few suggestions...

1) disable the power off option for the USB hubs
2) disable any ports not in use, in particular those sharing IRQ with the video card. I am not sure about this point, but I will look into it.
3) get a powered hub
4) use good old midi (do you know if this is more stable?)
5) unplug the mouse, use a PS2 mouse instead.

Some of my own:
1) Would a USB to firewire adaptor make a difference?
2) how about not powering the controller via the USB, do you know is this makes a difference?


Remaining is the question: is there a way to regain connection without having to reboot everything?

if there is the option to use a wall-wart power supply rather than relying on the usb power, it can't hurt

for my problem, at first i was shutting down live _and_ turning the BCF off. i later found that just turning the bcf off, and disabling mackie control, then re-enabling mackie control in live's preferences did the trick. i.e. i did not need to close live to reestablish the connection.

if power is the issue, you could look at getting a conditioner and plugging your gear into that
