Hi Guys

Am using a UC33 with live 5 and use am using the channel knobs to control bass middle and treble of eq 3

does anyone know how make it so 12 o' clock on the uc33 is 0.00db on ableton eq's

I'm sure this is how a mixer is normally

Search the forum for EQ4, there is a great way to set this up exactly as you want it. Credit goes to AdamJay for it, but it is what I use.

I'm not at my computer, but from what I recall:

1) Disable either node 2 or 3 in EQ4.

2) Then find the frequency for node 1 and 4 that suits your liking for low and high. (can't remember exactly what I used.) Similarly for middle.

3) Then map a midi control knob to the gain of node 1, middle, and 4, while the eq is in the zero position.

This will allow you to subdue, or boost, frequencies while having the midi knob at 12 o'clock.

Also, EQ4 is more transparent, and uses slightly fewer resources.

Don't trust me though, search for EQ4.

Yea I saw that, but EQ4 aint the route I wanna take. EQ3 would be better for me

I ended up writing a PD program to do not exactly this, but something very similar.

It's a bit involved but post here if you wouldn't mind doing a bit of programming...

This is the way to go if you must use EQ3. Try EQ4 though, the sound is more transparent and it uses less CPU resources from what I've heard.

Hey Adam, I gave you cred in my initial response. I was using eq3 for awhile, but can't really go back now. EQ4 is too flexible. If you set it up to do frequency instead you can get some really cool band-pass stuff going on too.

If you alter the center point by changing the min and max points in Ableton, you alter the min and max response of the knobs themselves, though. To retain the full knob range the response curve itself must be altered.

FWIW, I think the EQ3 has its own character also, here's an old post from one of the Ableton designers saying kind of the same -- not that the EQ4 is bad, just different:

ah, i didnt notice.
but really i dont deserve any credit, Ableton made a very versatile effect with EQ Four. I just wish more people would realize that it can adapt to nearly any equalization/filtering needs they may have.

yup eq4 is the way to go.. but if you wanna use the eq3's kill switches just open up both. have the eq3 totally flat and assign some buttons to the kills. then assign knobs to eq4. this gives the power of the eq4 with the dj style convieniance of the eq3.
