ok, well my on going planning and budget process is moving towards which softsynths i will be purchasing.


i love the moogs, but im' not in the mood to go out and get everything they have over there.


i'm interested in these two but right now i'm not sure which i should go for. anyone have any opinions on them? have they even announced intel versions?

A while back I was trying to make the same choice...however, I ended up going with GForce's Minimonsta Melohman.....a moog and soo much more...at a really good price....you can find info by google or kvr...

i'd like to hear some opinions from anyone who actually owns the minimoog or modular.

I personnaly like the minimoog over the modular but honestly i liked the cs80 softsynth better... it's the best one arturia has developed... for me it gets fast results nicer timbre than the other mention as far as comparing those you wanted with the minimonsta... errr you would have to just try yourself get the demo! but out of arturia's get the cs80 yamaha clone it rocksssssssssss!

I like the Minimoog V better. Plus, for me, it was easier to create user presets as everything is laid out better. The Modular is awesome, but not my favorite interface. I would also say maybe consider the Minimonsta. I don’t have it, but I've used it at a friends and the demo at home and it sounds awesome. Although, when I tried it (upon it's first release) it was quite high on CPU. However, I think that’s been fixed with an update.

Although not (obviously) a Moog VST, I would recommend the ARP2600 over those. Back in the 70's people were either a Moog man or an ARP man (similar to the old Gibson or Fender for guitarists back in the day). I definitely would have been an ARP guy.

The Arturia CS80 is awesome as well, but I hate that the interface is a little on the small side.

However the recently released Prophet VS looks fucking amazing. Too bad you need a dongle (even to demo it! Fuck that!).

the cs80 is pretty nice to, we'll see about that later.

My favorite is the Arturia Minimoog. I also just got the Prophet V and it sounds great!!

I personaly after doing my own listening have to say that the minimonsta sounded nicer to my ears. It rely is a matter of taste though. Another one to confuse yourself with is the Timewarp 2600 from Way Out Ware. IT SOUNDS VERY GOOD. It is a CPU hog but I have no problems hearing why. It is one of the best sounding VST's i have ever heard.

The Moog Modular has a huge cool factor, but beyond that, I don't know anyone who really uses it.

Any mini moog soft synth is going to suffer from over use.

I don't have a problem with dongles myself, but if you do, beware that Arturia will likely dongle their whole lineup at the next major update.

I do have a problem with Arturia's clunky UIs, just don't like 'em.

I love Minimonsta, great synth, and if you haven't tried a Melohman equipped synth, you really should.

I'm glad I read this thread. I was thinking about springing for the new Prophet V but the thought that a smaller software (not DAW or super high end processor plugs) like that would come with a dongle never entered my mind. I would have been sooo disappointed if I would have bought it and saw a dongle when I opened the box and not be able to return it. I don't need the extra plug THAT bad to carry a dongle around.

I've been dongle free for almost a year now! Yay!

If I want a moog or prophet plug, I would get Pro-53 or Minimonsta. Those sound really good and don't have dongles.

Unless I had no choice and there was no alternative to the software I wanted to buy, dongles are a dealbreaker for me. I vote with my wallet.

In a way, I can see how software companies are damned if they do damned if they don't. Dongles are effective against lost sales from piracy, but the disadvantage is that there are also lost sales by having the dongle. There are people like me who choose to purchase softwares without dongles.

but what are the real disadvantage to the dongles?

yet logic comes with one, all these moogs come with one, and what happens if more people jump on the bandwagon?

Over the last couple of years I have spent allot of cash buying software. I feel that it is "the right thing to do" and I feel good about doing it. BUT it just kills me is that using lagit software is more of a pain in the ass than using cracks. To go as far as to have to actualy haul a dongle around with me is never going to happen. I already have to deal with the biggest dongle ever, the MBox!
