midi loses sync when i jiggle midi controllers

i'm getting some midi sync problems when i jiggle the faders on my midi controller.
i'm running Live 2.0.3 on a PowerBook G3/400 (1gig RAM, ext HD) with MidiSport 4/4. i have an RFX midiwizard pedal and a Bitstream Pro midi controllers, running through a custom Max/MSP patch into Live.
the Max patch only sends notes, program changes, controllers, velocity -- no tempo. Live is set to get midi controller data from Max, and not to receive tempo data. it sends tempo data to the repeater, not to Max.
my drummer is using an Electrix Repeater, controlling it with a Roland midi pedal. the repeater is slaved to Live.
sometimes when i move a lot of faders or knobs on my Bitstream, the Repeater' tempo jumps, or Live's jumps. we're not sure which, but we know they went out of sync somehow.
any ideas?
