trigger finger knobs and faders not assignable?

I am running a trigger finger with ableton 5.3 and can't get the knobs or sliders to assign to anything. I programed the pads to my impulse, but would like the knobs and sliders for cutoff, volume, pan, etc. I never have any problems with my Oxygen controller knobs when I assign them. I do not have both controllers plugged in at the same time. Any insights would be appreciated.
