Dear People,

Hellooooooo to one and all.

Sorry but you guys may have to rewind quite a bit on your Ableton learning curve - I can't make mine work!

After a long break from squinting at early Atari sequencers I decided to check out Live 4.

Here goes:

Everything looks rosy in the preferences box - my midi setup couldn't be simpler, just an MPU 401 in/out interface.

So i select that for in and out.

Load up a std Midifile it recognizes the info - but won't drive any output!

Close Ableton and launch my old Steem powered Atari sequencer - works fine?

CLose that go back into Ableton. Go through every tutorial - dunno about you but I think the midi tutorial is particularly weak but never mind.

Anyway when I select record I have no problem getting midi IN the program and all the pretty notes appear BUT it won't come back out?

Forgive my ignorance but i cant see why. The only indicator that something is amiss is that the MIDI OUT indicator in the top right of the screen agrees with me that there is no midi leaving.

Anyone out there can put me out of my stupefying ignorance?

Thanks 8)

you have to route your midi signal to something: either external gear (for that, you'll need to select your midi out port in the dropdown box located in the i/O section, called "midi to").
or you need to load some VSTi or ableton instrument (impulse, simpler, operator...).
