Faderfox LX1 vs LX2

I'm gonna grab one of these just for clip/scene launching. I'm not really bothered about the LEDs (something else to go wrong). I just want lots of buttons for launching video and lighting scenes and clips.

Faderfox still have some LX1s available for less cash. With 64 buttons immediately available, and the other 64 available with a single keystroke, it seems simpler than the LX2. (And the black looks cooler, too...)

Anyone got both? Pro and cons?

Thanks!

I have the LX1 and was tempted by the LX2. But i found that i don't need 64 LED's since i got the bcr. Works fine enough for my purposes.

So if you just want buttons, you'll be set with the faderfox.

I often hear you complain about the lack of usb or it being non configurable..
Well, personally i have more spare midi ports then usb ports. so i don't mind.
Also, the LX1 works like a midi keyboard. You cant configure the keys of a midi keyboard either.

I think i've been trying to talk you into getting one for about a year now
Could you just break out the VISA and get it over with please

They're built like tanks and bloody useful. What more do you want.

You won't regret it! I have the 1st generation Faderfoxes, and I'm not even thinking about getting a new one!

On the LX2, if you use one of the buttons with LED to trigger a clip - does the LED light up when the clip is playing and go out when it stops?

I'd like to know that, too. Otherwise, I think I'd rather have an LX1.

Anyone?

Do the LX2 LEDs remain illuminated while that clip is looping?

I don't really think so. You would need to route the midi out from Live to the faderfox to get that feedback.

On the other hand. i decided to check the site real quick before i submitted this post.
Wise choice on my behalf ;)
- Parameter feedback of button statuses is indicated by LED’s (LIVE sends Mute & FX)
I'd still go with an LX1 though. But that depends on how much buttons you need. And how good you are at remembering stuff.
In my case it is used like a groovebox. I use those buttons trigger dummy clips etc...

I'll only use it for launching clips and scenes. Even with feedback, I'm not sure if a button's LED would remain on while that clip was looping. That's what I really want to know.

If it doesn't, then I'll pick up an LX1.

I told you I can't make a decision!

Edit: Just got an answer from Mathias:

hi kevin,
regular the last fired clip-LED is on (controlled only by the LX2)
but there is a trick to get the feedback from LIVE
so LIVE sends messages when a clip is running and stopped
to control the LED's
you need a text-file named 'option.txt' with special debug-content.
it's very easy to set
cheers

when you say its "unconfigurable" does that mean you cant change Midi CC, global MSB and LSB values like you can on the evolution controllers?

sorry if this has been asked before

Do they really have old LX left? nothing on their site. I am tempted to get one, I like it and dont like any switching and 128 buttons will be enough for my humble sets.
Hambone you wont be disappointed, the only regret I have not getting faderfox earlier, it is so essential and perfekt for Live live.

i'm also debatin the lx2 or lx1. i asked mathias about other differences heres what he said:

hi again,
LX1 isn't programmable and has no storeable setups like the LX2.
LX1 sends only note messages. (LX2 can send CC messages too)

forgive me for not being totally savvy on MIDI language, but can someone explain this to me. so unlike my evolution uc33, i won't be ablt to freely assign any button?

does that mean there is only one way to use the faderfox? and that's the way they have programmed it?

id appreciate any guidance here....please? :?
