Warping Mp3's - very, very wobbly.

Hey there javascript:emoticon(':D')
Very Happy

Has anybody else noticed that when you import Mp3's into Abe (v5) they all sound....... well just a little bit different to the original track?

At first I thought it was my speakers (Samson Resolv 65a's) just being darn asccurate, then I thought it was the Behringer USB mixer/soundcard and finally I decided that it was the actual MP3's themselves and how they were encoded.............

Now though...... I'm scratching my head.

I've been through all the forums and nothing is jumping out to me to suggest that I'm doing something basic wrong.

I even installed abe on my desktop as opposed to the laptop I got specifically to run it on, and I have the same problem there. This is despite the desktop being tweeked, built for audio and running Reason and Cubase for the past 2 years with no glitches whatsoever.

Basically, when I import an MP3 into Abe (dance music mostly) it sounds as if its been really f***** about with, there's like a fluttery, staccato effect in tune with the song. What really made me realise was when I imported Sasha's Xpander, "man that sounds really weird", I thought!

I've messed about with the Warp settings, and its much much worse on Beats, someone on this site suggested using the complex mode, which is better, but a bit of a strain on the CPU for multiple tracks. I am currently using re-pitch, which I have to ay, sounds somewhat better, but I'm still not sure its right!

Does anyone have their own views, or has anyone experience similar issues, and can you suggest a solution. I've gone down the hardware tweakiung route, so any suggestions in the operation of abe to improve this will be greatly appreciated!

that's just the way it is. the more you mess with a track, the worse it will sound. all modes except complex should not have any effect IF the tempo has not changed.

beware complex mode... from some tests I did, i suspect it may not even play back the same way every time. at the very least, complex mode will significantly alter the sound even without any change in tempo. plus as you noted its potentially a cpu problem

Well I have to admit I'm disappointed in this respect...... I bought Abe specifically to mix with. I have Reason and have used Cubase SX before and thought Abe was the missing ling.

That said everything else it does, it does superbly, so musen't grumble too much.

As it happens I've just started using re-pitch in warp mode. that seems to work a lot better at least the tracks are mixable now, although I have my doubt about mixing MP3 tracks full stop!

Thanks for getting back to me anyway with your views, there's nothing worse than struggling in isolation!

Wobbly tunes

Hi, I am in exactly the same boat, to be fair it is only more apparent when the tune is not in full swing. I know that Abe is a great product so I'm not complaining too much as it does everything else really well, but this is one thing that could perhaps be improved.
