ok im not using a midi keyboard at the moment, just the simple midi piano roll in ableton but every time i hit one of the keys to preview a note, it plays for only about 1/4 of a second, is there any way i can disable this to make the note preview sustain as long as i hold the piano roll key down?

maybe you should try the keyboard feature. there's a little icon near the upper right. then you can play on the computer keyboard.

Record a couple notes into a clip and change presets as it plays?
