most decent VJ software, such as modul8 (mac) and resolume (pc) will have some kind of scrub mode that you can attach to any midi device, and can control the current frame which a clip is playing (back and forth etc). My fave is Modul8, cos its kind of similar to ableton live, and is great for designing. A fun cheap option is Neuromixer's AV mixer Pro, which has specific drivers for MS pinky, and if you're on a pc, that midimx scratch box thingy (i'm on a mac.. so bit of a bummer there)..

i've been looking into this quite some time now, and most vj programs (for windows) are not good enough for video scratching. You can scrub in arkaos, you can only do it when your video is not playing. In resolume you cán scrub while your video is playing, but then again with both programs you DONT have audio!

In Jitter (max/msp) their is a scrub function that supports audio, but the sound is kinda buggy. But i guess you can program your way around it.

Numark is releasing a vj software package with actual time coded vinyls, but the movies that can be found on skratchworx.com don't make me enthousiastic.

Mixvibes is kinda the same as that numark thing and supports video files, but on the website you can't find any demo videos or whatso-ever, so i'm not even looking into that.

Anyhow, i'll wait till the pioneer dvd player's price drop or a software product comes along with good performances.

Grid Pro is supposed to integrate with Ms. Pinky really well from what I hear, & according to the Vidvox cats, its upcoming cousin VDMX 5 will let you tab between a grid view & a timeline view, which will make it the most Live-like of them all.

Scratching is no problem with Arkaos.

Assign the scrub playback to your choice of MIDI controller.

Virtual DJ is great too! but the Demo sucks, and it puts alot of people off. I invested whatever it cost, i think $180, and it blew me away.

Actually ArKaos can playback video includes audio. I just tried it out now. But according to the official manual

...always beneficial to remove the audio track of a movie.

It doesn't suggest so. And due to the limitation as above, ArKaos can only scratch when the video is stoped. So sad...

Here's another one - you can scratch using mixvibes.

Mixvibes

Just gets better and better...
