VST plugins in Send 1 slot not working?

Anyone had problems getting VST plugins to work in Send slot 1? I simply couldn't get a good number of my VSTs to work in there, though they worked fine in Send 2, and all the Live plugins worked fine in Send 1. very bizarre, I suspect after all the problems I've had, my Powerbook might in fact be possessed.
