Automation timing

I've noticed some things about the timing of clip automation in Live 5.2...
Clip automation is one of Live's most awesome features for me, because you can do really cool things with filter envelopes & stuff to create really intricately automated parts... For example, imagine a 1 bar midi sequence which is just 1 note, but you can automate the filter cutoff of that midi part with the Pencil tool, so that the value of filter cutoff is different every 1/4 or 1/8 or whatever, and usually the timing of this automation is rock solid...
In a couple of my recent projects, this automation has become sloppy... For midi parts where I've done lots of little bits of automation like that, the timing has become sloppy... for example, if i've done a filter cutoff change every 1/4, the cutoff now changes slightly before every 1/4 and the whole thing sounds pretty crap...
In a separate project, I've automated the "Speaker On/Off" parameter for a particular plugin in Arrangement view (rather than in any midi part), and the same thing is happening, the plugin is turning on slightly before when it should, and turning off again slightly before it should be, leaving the whole section sounding very dodgy...
I have no idea what happened to make the timing become bad like this in 2 separate projects... both are running a large number of plugins, but deleting some tracks & plugins doesn't seem to have any effect, the timing is just bad...
I will post some audio examples soon, but if anyone is experiencing the same thing or has any pointers on what to do, i'd GREATLY appreciate it
