Edirol FA-101 sound latency issues...anyone help?

Hi.
Strange things are afoot when I'm using my Edirol FA 101 firewire interface with live. I'm running numerous instruments in to live through this interface, and upon start up everything is running fine with zero sound latency. Yet after working for about 2minutes there is a sudden crackling noise followed by a sound latency problem. For example when I play a note from my guitar it sounds delayed by a few fractions of a second....whereas when I first started working there was no latency at all. This has happened both on my imac G5 and my ibook G4 running live 5. Checked the manual but no luck....anyone have any idea what might be happening here? Thanks

I got this very problem with another FW Interface (FC202 by Behringer) on a PC.
SImply Live was not able to retain the lowest latency available (2ms) for more than 5 minutes, then crakles and delays. Moving latency up to 4ms solved the problem.
Do not know if this can be the same on a Mac, but trying does not cost a thing.
