oh ffs. this one is one of my best tracks ever. it's in my top 3 actually. i'm really proud of this and i'll love to hear your opinions.

Reminds me a lot of herbaliser... I used to listen to this kind of stuff all the time... Is a good track! I love the percussion on it - would be col if maybe you could pick up the pace for a little while with the hats - keep expecting it... Production sounds clean as a whistle... (i'm on not very good speakers though, will listen again at home).

Is that real instruments in there and if so - is it you playing them? And is is all done with ableton.

Only comment i'd say is theres no definate direction to the track, i kind of want it to pick up a bit somewhere in there.

My description of it would be "Its like ive just smoked a huge joint and am meandering aimlessley around town on a sunny day"

I like it partly, although I am intelectually attracted to the awkward rhythm and unresolving melody angle I often find I am unable to listen to it in any context.

my primary contexts being
driving long distances (best music type - steve reich, blade runner soundtrack)
coding (ambient, anything pleasantly groovy)
partying (uptempo, sexy funky)

there isn't really a listening context for me to listen to 'un-nerving and unsettling'

that said, if it was my track the things I would do would be:

minimalise the intro, or make it resolve to f# when the track comes in - it's a minute of unsettling , when the track comes in it's unsettling with drums.

let the track have a big f# every 8 bars to lett the tension resolve.

have a big resolve in the middle where the key is very defined and the mood is 'pleasant' - sets a contrast.

when it comes back in I would add a little 'ooh it went a little groovy there!' moment, but most probably make the wandering riff into quite recognizably a tune which would 'make sense' of the previous goings on. Not that the wandering key thing is bad at all, but it can be like adding a 'the buttler did it' part to the end chapter of a suspense novel

well that's just a load of utter nonsense to me. i'm have really no idea about theory being i have no training in music theory. notes, chords, resolvinh... hah, crap. i do it all by ear. too bad tho, i fucking wish i knew what you were on about there. thanks for your input never the less

fortunately you don't really need to know any theory for this. just try playing an f# over the top every now and then and see what I mean.

you should notice that you get an "ah, that's nice" feeling. like coming home.

the melody here doesn't ever really return home, which is probably what you like.

but also I like to think that songs are made up of tension in both arrangement and in melody, tension and release. You have tension. But IMO you have to release the tension to set it up again - otherwise it is like a thriller where no-one ever gets murdered.

you can release the tension by going to the root note, which here I think is F# for the key phrase, then set off on the wandering again.

anyway - like I said, just opinion. which I have a lot of.

well you see. i haven't played any intruments in this tune, or any other for that matter cus i can't play any intrument. plus i really have no idea what f# is. and if you mean the f# key in the piano roll, well, the sax lines were samples i put directly into audio tracks which i cut, arranged, and meesd up with basically

I would say that finding out what the notes are called would be a pretty good start if you make music.

but then the whole thing has gone to fuck now so who cares I guess. I'm sure half the people on this forum think a major triad is a gang in a martial arts movie and don't see why they should know any different.

im in the same boat - dont ahve a clue about anything music , other than theres black keys and whote ones... would love to learn but dont have a clue where to start
