I've got a 17" hp machine with similar specs - live runs like a treat on it. Set the screen resolution properly and you can fit loads of audio/midi/return tracks in session view AND keep your browser open...

The only problem is - those 17" beasts weigh a TON!

Make sure you get XP Pro.

You'll thank yourself.

Seems ok. yes, it's heavier (you should get a backpack), but yes, it is nice.

I'm in a similar thought mode, regarding a possible second machine. My [maybe silly] rule of thumb, when you pay $2k, you may as well pay $2.5k, to get a screaming processor, or go for something a little less in something other than processor and get around $1.5k. . I don't want to pay $2k for a second machine, I want to pay $1.5k, so I would consider foregoing the 17" screen on the second machine.

Always price compare-- try http://hp.com as well.
