Loop reordering?

Hi,
I'm trying to find an FX VST (or other method) that lets me record a loop and then press buttons to start the loop at that given point...
IE if I have a loop running, I want to assign 1 - 8 on the keyboard to start the loop at that particular beat...
IEIE if the loops audio was a guy saying "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" I want to have this loop and then press 4 and have it go "4,5,6,7,8,1,2,3,4" then press 2 and it goes "2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2,3" etc etc so I can re order the loop in real time...
I guess this is kinda similar to DR rex in a sense, but also different... I imagine it could be done in ableton natively, but I also expect theres probably a vst that could handle it?
any help would be appreciated!
Cheers

8 loops in ableton on 8 scenes (vertical).
on each loop move the track start mark through the loop, to your dersired start points.
assign each scene to a key.
hit the keys in whatever order you like.

You could just use Live's beat repeat. It should be capable of something very similar
I'm no beat repeat guru though, so you will have to find out for yourself.

hey thanks!
the multiple clip idea crossed my mind, but i'm going to be using live input from various sources, so it won't work on the fly.
Funnily enough I found out about lucifer a couple of days ago, but devine-machine.com has been down... does anyone know what the story is with that? I'd love to get a demo (or even purchase it if it's decent) but i can't find a download site or a stockist anywhere!
any clues?

hmm, should be possible in live. you have to automate the clip offset by other clips that you trigger with your 1, 2, 3, ...-keys. when home i will try to do a set

Actually you can do such evil things with a row of delays on a track, each with different delay lengths.

i've given all of these a shot with limited success...
in the clip view, you can clip at the top of the waveform section and it will begin playing from that point... thats really what i'm after, but I don't want to use the mouse, I just want to hit a key.
Preferably I could route the signal out to a BCR2000 to emulate the monome so I don't even have to look at the screen while all this is going on.
The other option i was looking at was setting up several dummy clips, each starting at a later time and then setting these up with triggers....
the problem then is loading in loops i've just this second recorded into the dummy clips (actually thinking about it now, I think dummy clips of the same name automatically propagate one file across them all.. i'll have to check it out after work)
any other ideas floating around in heads?
By the way, devine-machine.com is still down after about 3 days, so i've not been able to get a demo of lucifer 2.... does anyone have it, or know where to find it outside of the devine machine site?
