Help with keyboard hooked up to PC

Does anyone have any tips for lowering latency as much as possible between an external device and a PC (via USB?). I have a digital piano with a USB out, and a softsynth on my pc, and it sounds fine, except there's a noticable delay (about 1/6th of a second) between pressing the keys on the piano and the signal output from the synth. It makes it hard to record into the track in Live. I have the latest drivers for both the piano and my soundcard installed. Any ideas?

It could be soundcard latency or midi latency. Hard to tell, but unless you have a "music" soundcard, audio latency is the most likely thing.

PC/Mac? Soundcard? Driver?

If your soundcard latency can't be set to below 512 (at the very very most) you could try the asio4all driver and see if that gets you a little less.

PC (P4 2.8), Sound Blaster Audigy, driver version 5.12.1.512.

Oh, so I tried lowering the latency in Live under preferences -> Audio, actually, I think this will do. Sorry, kind of dumb. I should have done that that before posting anything. Thanks guys.

Try the ASIO4ALL drivers. You will probably be able to to get down to around 10 msecs latency.
