No quantize above 1/16th in Live?...

Post by Willyum » Fri May 19, 2006 8:54 am

Record quantize in Live seems to stop at 1/16th....where is 1/32nd and 1/64th?
Even quantizing after stops at 1/32nd!

What am I missing here?

i'm guessing the abes figured not too many people can play accurately at the 1/32-1/64 note level, so they didn't bother including it. i mean, for the type of music that most people using live create, anything at the 1/32-1/64 note level is sequenced before hand.

maybe, maybe not.
I think the abes should release a product that lives up to the spiel on their website. And their spiel is 'complete production tool' .... really, I'm not even splitting hairs - I judge the product by what the company says it does, and what it actually does. The greater the difference (and for how long), the less respect for the company and less trust for future releases/more skeptical. Conversely, the smaller the difference the more loyal I am, and less hesitant to automatically buy updates.

companies that deliver: kenton, metric halo, A&H, elektron, clavia, faderfox, this list could go on for a while...

companies that dont deliver (lie): maudio, edirol, behringer (some of the time), ......well you get the picture ....... I cant honestly put ableton live in either category

I'm with you 100%, and think you should start a feature wishlist thread on this, especially the incoming record quantize. Seems like it would be easy to implement, as is definitely needed. good one.

i set mine to no quantize then correct it. i have a px-7 so i'm use to pressing repeat and setting it to 16,32 or 64 but live is different. i thought for it to be on the computer all programs should let you do that.

yes please! Even a simple shuffle/groove slider ala FLoops would be huge for getting quantized midi stuff to be less stiff--I gots to think this is in store for 6.

I agree with this statement. Maybe 1/32 would suffice, but if you're getting into 1/64, then what's the point of quantizing at all? Just turn it off if you got the skills.

at least 1/32, at slower tempos, say around 70 bpm, a 1/32 note is the same as a 1/16 at 140 bpm. Or a 1/64 note at 70 is like a 1/32 at 140 bpm--for slow bpms, 1/64 could be useful. Sure you could double the song tempo, but 1/8 note clicks can be a bit intense...

You can allready do shuffle, set quant. to triplets, then amount to something like 10% and 'end' to off, voila, shuffle.

it already has "shuffle" qauntize but desperatly lacks a proper user programmable "groove" quantize.

wow, I thought for sure someone would tell me to hit 'ctrl+shift+some button' to get the remaining quantize resolutions.

I don't think I've ever used another program that didn't have those resolutions...I use 1/32 often in Reason.

just to make sure no one gets the wrong idea, we're only talking about record input quantize here.

you can record without quantize and then quantize them to any value you want after the fact.
