external sync and playback problems

have two different problems with my setup:
(dell inspiron 8200
emagic emi 2/6
emagic amt-8 )
external sync problem:
when syncronizeing live to external source, everything works fine. the problem starts when feeding other midi-signals:
i use a doepfer drehbank midi-controller, and when sending data to live, the clock-signal does not get through anymore -> while turning the controller-knobs, the tempo goes down to 35 bpm and raises again when other midi data stops.
playback problems:
did completly new installatino (just windows, live and hardware drivers), but i get dropouts after using live for about 10-20 minutes.
it runs well with internal audio-hardware (wich is bullshit) but not with the emi
does anyone out there hve any ideas/tips?
