Delay / Latency Problem When Recording Vocals Through Mixer

i am using live 5.
i was using the m-audio groovelab transit box and headset/mic and never had a problem w/ volume or delay.
i just got a mixer and a mic hooked up and i'm having major delay issues.
i tried going back to the transit box just to see if it was the mixer and all of a sudden i've got delay with THAT.
i've tried changing the output buffer size. i don't know what else to do.
i can hear the delay in my headphones when i'm recording, too, and it's pretty distracting.
the mixer is a USB Yamaha MW10.
any ideas? anyone??
