is Project 5 the only one? if you know of one please list it, whether it's a sequencer or just a host and whether it's free or not. thank you.

A work around. That i find nice and easy.

Open Cubase. Open Live

Cubase Is Rewire Master Incidently

Name your Live song and save it as self contained

Name your Cubase song and specify the self contained folder of your Live song as the audio folder.

Now when you record audio or export a wav or aiff all the audio info for both apps reside in the one folder-- easily and quickly accesible for both Live and Cubase.

You can now also use Cubases reverse, normalizer, duplication, fade etc etc actions on the audio parts THAT ARE BEING USED IN LIVE. Great if u dont have a stand alone wav/aiff editor

Rewire slave of a vsti host would be great, i agree, but working the above way takes out a lot of the chore in the mean time and gives you a fluid workflow where you can still record your vsti'swith or without midi and be able to sequence them in live.

best

yes you can.

you should be able to do it with other sequencers like Logic etc etc.
Live is playing a ghost of the the same file source that cubase uses.
So in consequence any destructive ( permanent) editing of that file will result in the source file being permanently altered (reverse or fading for example). Both cubase and live use the same source file when you follow the instructions on my prior post.

Also
What u need to do is duplicate your chosen file within cubase and alter that one keeping the original unaltered and available for further duplication in the future if need be.

Cheers Mic

I,m still using os 9 vst 32 at the moment. Cubase on that version does not do self contained but does something similiar thats a pain in the arse to make work effectively but i record all audio via cubase anyway and with the Self contained song of the Live folder being nominated as Cubases record audio folder then all the files are together anyway. Cubase is my front end in case its not clear. Cubase rewire master -- live rewire slave

My other tip is to stop using midi while playing Vsti's like Spectrasonics Atmosphere and combine this with recording all the audio while you play about the with the synth patches and forgeting about everything else other than playing music. Sometimes with all the technology i find it just gets in the way of the flow/motion. Music (after practice) is supposed to be instinctual afterall.
