Does beta 6 mean no more 5?

Maybe I missed this. Has all the development been shifted to Live 6? Will there be no more point releases for Live 5?

Has there been a formal announcement?

I've read so many references to people having problems with the current version. Am I out of touch? Are these only the rumblings of a vocal minority? Have these problems been resolved in 5.2?

To be fair, 5.2 has been very stable in regular moderate use on my Mac. The one problem I had (track latency with direct external monitoring) was easily resolved (with some embarrassment to me.)

Thanks.
James

It would seem something is in the works. I have no other reason to say that other than they are due for releasing something soon. Either a bug fix or a beta. I would think a bug fix would be more likely. There doesn't seem to be as many having problems since live 5.2 but I think there still a few issues that need to be sorted.

5.2 has been great on my powerbook (1.67GHz, 512mb ram  ) I'd love to test out a 6 beta

It's always worked pretty well for me except I do experince the audio glitches from time to time. As I only really use Live to produce this doesn't affect me that badly, but if I used it for Live performance it would burn my ass.

let's hope multiprocessor support is part of the next bug fix.

from what I understand that won't available until Live 6. That could have been your whole point and if so, forgive me.

multi proc support is the ONLY confirmed mentioned feature of live 6 at all - and that it will be out 3rd Qtr 2006, going into beta sometime this northern hemisophere summer (jun-Aug)

so no, it wont be in a bug fix - and considering the amount of work that would have to go into making something like that happen that's not surprising

yeah, i knew that was a feature of 6, just hoping that there are no more bug fixes for 5 and that 6 comes out sooner!!

that and a couple of really minor things to do with freezing tracks is all i need.

5.2 is solid as a rock for me so please just concentrate on getting 6 out!

So the consensus so far is that 5.2 is stable and the last point release.

As a mac user, I don't plan to throw out my g3 and g4 machines. Almost certainly, version 6 (or some point release of 6) will drop support for non intel macs. That means 5.2 could be the last stop for all power pc machines.

That's not a bad thing. 5.2 has a great variety of features and the performance is good if not great on the g4. I think that cpu is going to represent the best value for those on a budget.

It's a shame that apple didn't release a dirt cheap single core macbook....say 1.8 for 699.00. Meanwhile, I'm seeing g4 ibooks and powerbooks getting cheaper all the time.

I'd expect maybe another 2 years before any software company drops PowerPC support.

There are way too many customers still on powerpc machines for Ableton to do this (staff/developers included i would have thought).

I hope you're right. It would make sense.

The intel transition IS different than the move to the g3, g4 or g5. Each of those cpu's required updated software but nothing like the complete reworking we see now.
