Ive observed a number of odd startup behaviors when using the beta release with protools. Often the first luanch of Live- after Pro Tools does not subtatiante properly, and audio/rewire/play linking doesnt work as it should. Also, It would its seems impossible to launch a specific sample vie Midi messages (Notes) to Live, unless I am mistaken.

Hi,
please give me more information about what you do.
1) Which operatings system do you use?
2) Which ProTools version?
Don't forget to select Ableton Live as a DigiRack effect in ProTool before starting Live.
Concerning the MIDI note...
Is it not possible to assign a MIDI note for a clip or is nothing happen when you send the note?
regards,
Alex

Hi, I'm using a G4 "sawtooth" with 1 gig of ram and dual 1.3 proccesors.
Running Live ( the beta) in rewire mode.
Starting up as
Pro Tools (digi001)
Live
Then reason.
As I said, I dont seem to be able to assign a pro tools note to live, through rewire. I had hoped to be able to "trigger" sample loops from the live matrix window. I had treid to use the remote midi mapping function.
I couldnt tell if it was my set-up, a limitation of live/rewire, or just simple not doing it the right way.

Hi,
because you are on a Mac I assume it's OS X and you use ProTools 6.1 (because all versions before 6.1 don't have ReWire support).
Live does not yet support recieving of MIDI from the ReWire master (ProTools in your case). Please see also this thread:

In your first post you wrote also the "...audio/rewire/play linking doesn't work as it should...". Please give me some more information about what you do and what you expect.

Alex

OK, I am using OSX on a G4 17" Powerbook on the beta 2 and when running PT, Reason, and Live. I get CPU not powerful enough error and an increase hardware buffer size. The CPU meter in PT is below half and in Live I am barely using any trax. PT halts when I add an effect in Live but I can do tons of stuff in Reason with no errors. It seems like some kind of processor spike or something. I'm sure u guys will work it out.

Hi,
just to let you know currently I have the same problem on a 2.4 Ghz PC together with PT 6.1 and the Digi002. I get the CPU not powerful... error all the time, with Reason, with Live, ...
No problem with the MBox or Digi 001. But I don't want to blame Digidesign. Maybe my 002 is just somehow broken.
I will try to get closer to this problem.

Alex

Yes, the thread you pointed me to clarifys the situation for me.
As far as the performance issues (note that I havnt tried the full 2.1.1 release yet). I expected aconsistency in the "play" status of live in either arranger or grid mode fRom pro tools. i noted that there seems to be some hesitation at times, and at others time a "miss" of live to go into play mode when hitting play in PT. Other time sit worked fine. In fact i really liked being ableot hgave a drum loop, loop continously during a recording, or conversly play the live arrangement as a loop along with PT recording in the back ground. I like that there are 2 different modes in the way it operates with pt retaining all of lives great features. Buy hey, get that midi triggering thing going! I'll be checking out the 2.1.1 release later, maybe it was abeta issue all along?
Take Care
