The Horror... the horror... (Sorting MP3s by Genre)

Alright, now that I've dumped the turntables for good and have become an Ableton follower, I have to sort, rename, organize and, most importantly, properly tag my MP3 collection (which today numbers 7,132 files).

I'm a little trance princess, just for reference.

My biggest challenge is to put in genre information for my So I have embarked on a quest to find the best program to quickly listen to and enter Genre info for the 5000+ songs that aren't genre tagged yet.

I love iTunes, but you can't both listen to a song, go quickly to the next and edit tags from the same screen.

ID3 Tag-It is old and buggy (crashes when you try to play anything) but it's great for massive batch filename changes and such.

Anyone? Help? I have a decade of tagging to do with the current method (lots of clicking and pointing in iTunes).

Oh, I use PCs.

heh, pay one of your nephews/nieces 100 notes to do it for you, with whatever software you find.

last time I attempted this, I believe I found good software for the job (cant recall sorry) but it still required way too much mundane interaction ....I gave up, would have taken me a few solid hours every night for a long time to get the job done...

You could make a play list for each genre and then move a track to the correct play list. Once you have them all done iTunes will let you bulk change/update the genre by selecting all the tracks in the play list.

(BTW thanks for making me thing about this. I just saved myself a few hours today by doing this!)
