Here's the next topic for discussion. I thought the musical influences thread was pretty interesting and informative for discovering some new music, but everyone listed about thirty bands/artists and it becomes complete overload. So to keep it nice and concise: what's the one song that you heard for the first time, and it made the light bulb go off and it all clicked and you went "hell ya". Know what I mean? I know it's tough, maybe imposiible, and I could list off cowgirl, one too many mornings etc etc., but to chose one, I'm going to have to say:

Echoes by Pink Floyd - Rummaging around with a fiend in his moms closet full of records after school in grade 11 one day, we pulled out Meddle, threw it on the turntable, and I was dumbstruck for the next 23 minutes and 27 seconds. The guitar became a very different instrument to me after that.

What's yer story?

Inner City - "Good Life" & "Big Fun". Still does it every time for me ~ since 1987!

Very hard to pick just one...
I could say a track from The Clash or Pistols.
Or Grandmaster Flash on the wheels of steel.
Or something by Massive Attack.
But you said "just one" so it's going to be Ghost Rider by Suicide. I saw them support The Clash (and The Specials!) way back in the day, and they blew me away.

I remember hearing Matthew Fisher's organ solo for the first time on a summer day in 1967. I was still really small. We were in my mother's station wagon, parking for a trip to the zoo. I'll never forget hearing that song for the first time, or parking beneath the incredibly tall parking lot marker with a giraffe's head and spots... had to start studying keyboards from that moment on.

Daft Punk's Around the World. Well, or worse, maybe it was 2pac's California Love. It's a wonder I can read music.

I was two years old in 1974 sitting in the backseat of my parents' car, Doobie Brother's Black Water comes on the AM radio. OMFG I loved that tune.

Damn, too many to choose from, but that was the start of it all, pretty women and funky music.

The rest of the album is OK, but that song was it.
i write in a similar style, layered, syncopated melodies and rhythm.

Oh gosh, this is so darned difficult, my inpirations have been so eclectic that I don't know what to write!

One is tough to choose, but that makes it interesting.

Well, Pink Floyd's The Wall opened me up to music. As far as electronic music goes, "Are We Here?" by Orbital shuffled in that era. For hip-hop I'd say "13th Floor/Growing Old" by Outkast and all of Aquemini as well...
