Aargh! Bank change not sending

I am tryin to send a bank change message to my nord rack 3.
in it's manual it says it recieves on CC #32. you have to send a bank change then a program change.
i can change programs just fine... if they are all in bank 1.

anybody else doing this? or with other synths?

i tried going to midi ctrl within the envelopes section of the clip, but CC 32 is not listed in those available for editing.

any help much appreciated
thanks!

does it SEND a midi track? whenever i'm not sure what to do, i just hit record and press/turn whatever button or knob i want to send a signal to, and then look in live to see what got recorded and where. that might help.

Thanks snowtires but...
I'm not sure if you understood my problem.
I'm not trying to send midi control to live.

I want to send a bank change command to the nord when i launch a clip in live.
LIVE ---> SYNTH see?
it WILL send a program change (ie: patch #) but will NOT change the bank...
So if i want [bank 2, patch 1], and i set the clip to that, it will just change the patch to [bank 1, patch 1]

These are almost the same thing, as far as seting them up in ableton...
There's really not much to it.
But it no go :(

Please,
anybody with ANY external hardware synth, have you had a similar problem,
or does it work fine for you?

I had the same thing happan with my Korg Groove box: Electribe EMX-1. I dont know what I did to get it to work. I just kept messing with it and got it to work. Try restarting Live. I find that sometimes something in Live doesnt work, then I close and re-open Live and it goes away. If its getting the program messages, then it SHOULD get the bank change message. I know that doesnt help much but hey, im a rooky and am sharing your frustration.

good luck!

thanks needs2know...
i spose i can try that, but i have a feeling thats not the answer.

i remembered one thing:
I leaned with my Juno, that instead of bank change messages, you have
to add the program #'s... how do I explain that... like maybe
Hectadecimally since there are 8 banks and 8 patches per bank? ie:
Bank 2 Patch 2 would be program #10 (8 in the first bank, then 2 more)...
But I cannot do that with the nord as there are like 128 programs per
bank :(

OK tanks!

anybody else?

No Bank change massages working with G2 Engine and Motif ES

Hi folks,

I also stuck with Live not sending appropriate bank-change messages to my external synths. I really dont care about the Motif, cause it is easy to handle, but I'd really love to make clip-based sound-changes with the Clavia Engine.
Program-changes work fine, but the Engine stucks with Bank 1, Motif with the General Midi Bank.

In my oppinion, appropiate bank-change-command (notes-window) would make Live the killing application for live-playing and controlling.

hi

there are two bank change selection areas have you tried both?

I had a Sound module that required two bank change messages to be sent LSB then MSB then a program change before it would change bank.

Try setting the bank to 0 & sub bank to 32.

LSB>Least significant bit
MSB>Most significant bit

Hi,

as far as I know, bank and sub-bank field are bank numbers to switch, but not controller-numbers.

I can easily switch programm-changes with Live, but not bank-changes, they do not seem to work.

Live runs fine on my PC. What is your audio-card or interface.

Also check the rme XP-tips to get your installation optimized:

... you'll find good information to improve your system

I use an Emu 1820 and I am currentlly playing around with using Live and midi to send changes to external effects. If I get anything to work I'll let you know. Please post if you get things to work.

EDIT: Oh I misunderstood. Well I have an 1820 anyway and I have no problems (I've purchased a new computer and have yet to load live onto it and then I'll move the 1820 over)

Hi,

another statement to this issue from a technician of a reputable keyboard-company. He wonders, that Live first sends the LSB (32), followed by the MSB (00).He says, it must be the other way around: 1st sending MSB (00),, followed by LSB (32).

Does anyone have made a little research on this problem, cause all my external do not follow the bank-programm-changes of Live or they switch to the general midi bank (Yamaha, Kurzweil and Clavia)?

Is there a possibility to change that in Live?

Greetings Bastian

you might want to write that to support @ ableton . com
